17 Goals to be achieved by 2030
In September 2015, the “Sustainable Development Summit” was held in the United Nations Headquarters in New York and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by 193 participating countries: 17 goals with 169 targets to be achieved by 2030.
The SDGs are the responsibility of all countries, developed and developing. The Japanese government has expressed its commitment towards helping to achieve these goals. The private sector is also expected to actively contribute to the achievement of the SDGs via a combination of business activity and funding.
For details, please refer to the United Nations website.
The SDGs Holistic Innovation Platform, “SHIP” is an open innovation platform that sees innovation opportunities in tackling the SDGs and aims to solve worldwide challenges with corporate know-how and technologies.
SHIP is also a global platform that includes diverse stakeholders both in Japan and overseas, forming “SHIP Ecosystem.” It collects first-hand insights from the ground about issues around the world by utilizing its unique SHIP Digital Platform.
SHIP offers Japanese companies a variety of membership options and programs for innovation opportunities.
SHIP is jointly run by Japan Innovation Network (JIN) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and supported by a network of partners.
The SHIP Digital Platform connects global issues and needs with technologies and know-how of the private sector.
The ignition point of innovation is correctly identifying the customer’s hidden needs. Key to identifying these needs is access to information on the ground. The SHIP Digital Platform is an online platform specifically designed to collect ‘raw information’ on people’s challenges and needs around the world.
The accumulated information will be enriched with macro-information and organized into different categories and innovation opportunities. These will be shared with SHIP Corporate Members to be utilized in their business models.
